Google files Canadian trademark for its Duplex voice technology

This could mean Google plans to bring Duplex to Canada

Google has trademarked its Duplex service in Canada, signalling the search giant might exist working to bring it northward of the border.

For those unfamiliar, Google Duplex is a human being-sounding AI voice technology that can book appointments on your behalf.

Google starting time demoed Duplex at its I/O issue in 2018 but received backlash due to how eerily man information technology was. Later, the company adjusted its stance and said Duplex would introduce itself every bit a robot when it talked to them.

Most recently, Duplex began rolling out to minor groups of Pixel owners in select U.S. cities, such as New York, Atlanta, and Phoenix. Farther, Duplex operates in a 'restricted' state and tin can merely make restaurant reservations for now.

Not long subsequently its launch, videos began to surface that showed Duplex in action.

Withal, with the registering of the Duplex trademark, Google could be looking to bring the characteristic to Canada in the future.

The trademark was filed and formalized at the end of January 2019. Under the 'Services' section in 'Details,' the trademark describes Duplex equally an "online, not-downloadable software for providing personal concierge services… initiated by phonation-controlled commands."

It besides describes making appointments and reservations at restaurants and hotels.

Ultimately, the prospect of having Duplex in Canada is heady, to say the least. Hopefully, we'll encounter it hither soon.
